CEP Demolitions Ltd are delighted to be working with Balfour Beatty Construction on the refurbishment of Waverley Station Roof.

The Project has just entered the Demolition Phase after months of erecting intricate design scaffold crash-deck systems above the live platforms, to enable the follow-on trades to work in a safe “High Street Environment”.

All materials arising from the demolition works, ie:- glass, timber, metal [steel and aluminium], and plastic will be recycled ,with less than 5% remaining being taken to landfill as waste. The demolition

works are due to be completed by August 2012.

As part of our works we have started stripping back the Jeffrey Street Footbridge. When Waverley Station was redeveloped in the 1890’s, an historic route from the Old Town to Leith Walk would have been cut-off after hundreds of years of use, had it not been for The Parliament at that time.

The Parliament which authorised the redevelopment required the Railway Company to build a footbridge over the Station from Jeffrey Street in the Old Town to Calton Road to maintain this important route.

The footbridge was closed in the 1950’s.

We will work hard over the coming week to bring you the most up-to-date project information and images. This will effectively become a ‘Before & After’ of the complete process which will remain a permanent fixture of our works portfolio.
